GULFPORT — A Jan. 6 sentencing date has been set for a former Stone County surgeon who has pleaded guilty to selling prescriptions for pain pills and anxiety medication.
A federal grand jury indicted 43-year-old Je Song in a 35-count indictment. Song has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. In exchange for his plea, the remaining charges were dismissed.
The Sun Herald reports Song is facing a possible 20-year sentence, with up to three years of post-release supervision and up to a $1 million fine.
Song and six others, identified as middlemen, were indicted in the case. Authorities said the middlemen obtained prescriptions from Song for such drugs as hydrocodone, oxycodone and alprazalom, and later sold them for as much as $400 a prescription.
