BAY ST. LOUIS — A building permit has been issued for a $6.1-million terminal and hangar at Stennis International Airport.
GM&R Construction Co. of Bay St. Louis was the successful bidder for the project.
Jack Zink, executive director of the Hancock County Development Commission, tells The Sun Herald he expects work to start any day on the 10,000-square foot terminal and 24,000-square-foot hangar to replace the hangar destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.
Construction will take about a year.
The modern, two-story terminal was designed by JBHM Architects in Biloxi. It will have a restaurant and an aviation history theme.
Zink says the funding for the projects will come from multiple sources, including compensation for damage caused by Hurricane Katrina.
