Corinne Fox, the first female masters graduate from Ole Miss, retires

City of Jackson planning director Corinne Fox has retired. Deputy director Bonnie Hopkins has taken over as director.
Fox has been at the forefront of planning efforts in Jackson for much of her 45-plus-year career. She is credited with developing a “groundbreaking” comprehensive plan for the city in 1996 and writing a downtown strategic plan that now guides $2 billion in investments.
Fox was the first woman to graduate from the University of Mississippi’s master’s degree program in urban and regional planning in 1969 and established the state’s first female-owned planning firm.

  1. Corinne Fox is the best friend the City’s Historic Districts have. Same can be said of the Overlay Districts and much of the success of our Main Street projects. The previous administration gutted one of the premier Planning Departments in the Southeast. It was a great day for Jackson when Mayor Johnson brought Corinne back as Director.

I’d like to publicly thank her for her visionary service and sacrifice for the people of Jackson. Corinne will never have to wonder if she made a difference.

  2. Corinne’s abilities to work within the funding available, to stay within applicable law and code, and to still achieve visionary results is remarkable. She is a dedicated planner in the very best sense of the word. Jackson will miss her guiding/leading hand, but will be able to build on the foundation she helped construct.

I can only repeat what my friend Jim said above, she will never have to wonder if she made a difference!
We appreciate all she has accomplished.
