Plans begin for Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area

STONEVILLE — The board of the Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area has begun its planning phase.

The board announced it had begun planning at a public meeting in Stoneville. Almost 600 individuals and organizations, representing a broad cross section of the Delta’s museums, interpretive centers, tourism agencies, elected officials and educators were invited to attend.

The team of professional planners that will assist the Heritage Area in developing its management plan was introduced. The team is organized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and includes experts in preserving and interpreting heritage and in heritage tourism. The team includes both current and former managers of National Heritage Areas as well as planners who have successfully helped other regions benefit from their own heritage.
