Supervisors split on money needed for proposed road

HINDS COUNTY — Hinds County supervisors have split again on how much money they will need to raise to pay for all of the $96-million Byram-Clinton Corridor.

The supervisors, who have about $30 million to work with right now, voted unanimously yesterday to ask the state for legislation authorizing the county to sell general obligation bonds to fund the remainder of the 20-year-old project.

But before three of her colleagues would do so, Supervisor Peggy Hobson Calhoun had to change her original proposal, which called for selling $50 million in bonds.

In the motion that was approved, The Clarion-Ledger reports Calhoun did not specify a dollar amount that would be needed to fund much of the 18-mile, multi-lane parkway.
