Ex-justice court clerk arraigned on extortion charge

WILKINSON COUNTY — A former justice court clerk in Wilkinson County is facing extortion charges related to her official duties, announced Attorney General Jim Hood.

Wanda Fountain, 54, of Woodville was arraigned before Judge Lilly Blackmon Sanders on one count of extortion. Fountain is accused of taking a payoff from an undercover MBI agent to fix tickets.

“This case is the result of a joint investigation between our office, the State Auditor and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics,” said Attorney Hood.

After indictment, Fountain was arrested Nov. 21. If convicted, she faces up to five years behind bars. Her trial will be set during the February term of court.

As with all cases, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorney General Stan Alexander of the Attorney General’s Public Integrity Division.
