Judge appointed to hear election-related lawsuit

GREENVILLE — Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice William L. Waller Jr. has appointed retired senior-status Judge Samac S. Richardson of Brandon to hear Greenville attorney Willie Griffin’s election-related lawsuit against Washington County Board of Supervisors District 2 Supervisor Mike Gordon.

No hearing date has been set.

The Delta Democrat Times reports Waller’s order developed because none of the county’s judges would hear the case. Griffin is challenging the Nov. 8 election, which shows Gordon won with 1,200 votes. Griffin finished with 1,061 votes.

Griffin alleges several irregularities occurred at one precinct and is asking a judge to throw out its results and declare Griffin the winner, based on the results from three other precincts.

Gordon will be sworn in Thursday. He says he’s confident nothing will change the election outcome.
