Keeping Our Eye On Deanna White

By Stephen McDill

Louisianan Deanna White says she didn’t visit  Mississippi much growing up. After a high  school trip to Clinton, she chose to enroll in  Mississippi College because she liked the  close-knit campus and wanted to follow four  of her relatives into the nursing field.

There was only one problem.

“I don’t like blood and I don’t like needles,”  White says.

Fortunately she had an interest in math and her backup plan had always been  a degree in accounting. White met with her  adviser and switched majors during the Christmas break of her junior year. “God put some peace in my mind about that,” White says. An internship helping with tax returns at Jackson’s Eubank & Betts followed.

“I think I just enjoy the client relations part of auditing and going out and taking them their reports and catching up.” White says about her current position at HORNE. “I couldn’t sit at a desk and stare at a computer.” Client relations also offers the opportunity to travel and White says she has enjoyed many trips from a six-week stay at the Alluvian in Greenwood to two weeks in Nashville. “I like to go out and see new places,’ she says.

White is active in the Zip 39 young professionals group of Madison County and attends First Baptist Church of Jackson where she is a member of the choir.
