Regulators issue more violations against BP for oil spill

NEW ORLEANS — Federal regulators have issued a second set of violations against BP for activities related to the 2010 blown-out well that led to the deaths of 11 rig workers and the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history.

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement issued five violations today. The violations claim BP failed to conduct an accurate pressure integrity test and failed to suspend drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico “when the safe drilling margin identified in the approved application for permit to drill was not maintained.”

Regulators in October cited BP PLC for seven violations and contractors Transocean, Ltd. and Halliburton for four violations apiece. The second round of violations came after further review of evidence.

BP, which has 60 days to appeal, had no immediate comment.
