BILOXI — A developer wants to build a $12-million Fairfield Inn hotel next to the new Biloxi Visitors Center, but the people who live in the area said it doesn’t fit in their historic neighborhood.
The Sun Herald reports the Biloxi Planning Commission yesterday tabled the request for a zoning change and variances until the project is brought to Biloxi’s Architectural and Historical Review Commission.
The four-story, 84-unit hotel on U.S. 90 would have columns, gables and wrought iron to enhance the architecture.
More than 25 residents of nearby neighborhoods stood when asked who opposed the project and presented a petition.
Residents say there is plenty of open land zoned for hotels in the city and they are concerned about traffic and security if the hotel is built.
