ACROSS MISSISSIPPI — Gov. Haley Barbour issued the following statement on revenue collections in Mississippi last month:
“The monthly report from the Department of Revenue shows that Mississippi’s November revenue collections are below the estimate by 1.5 percent, or almost $4.9 million less than anticipated.
“Our national economy continues to be sluggish. The state’s economy is no different. Individual income tax receipts are down 7.2 percent below what was expected for the month, which is of particular concern. We need to be prudent in spending state revenues and reserves until economic conditions improve, especially when we will have $200 million less in federal funds next year.”
