Supervisors award extension to Diamondhead Casino

DIAMONDHEAD — A company that has proposed a casino in Hancock County has received a two-year extension of its special use permit for land it owns stretching from south Diamondhead east to near the Harrison County line.

County supervisors granted the extension this week to Diamondhead Casino Corp.

The Sea Coast Echo reports the permit was in jeopardy after the local planning commission denied the extension. Mississippi Gaming Corp. the parent of DCC, asked supervisors to approve the extension.

The company has had a special use designation for more than a decade, but it was required to ask for renewal every year.

Company officials said they are still actively seeking partners for the casino project, but the economy is making things tough.
