SOUTHAVEN — The Mississippi Auditor’s Office has reduced the amount of money that Southaven Mayor Greg Davis must pay as part of an investigation into the misuse of city funds.
Davis has been under scrutiny since November when Mississippi Auditor Stacey Pickering told him to pay about $170,000 for allegedly improper billings, penalties and interest. The expenses included travel, stress counseling, food and liquor. The auditor’s office has said one bill was for $67 at a gay sex shop in Canada.
Pickering’s spokeswoman, Lisa Shoemaker, said in a news release that the agency reviewed $44,000 in receipts and documentation that Davis submitted. The agency reduced the original amount he owed by $10,319.24, plus interest. The total amount of questionable expenditures and interest now stands at over $158,000.
Davis has repaid $96,000.
