RIPLEY — The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is currently working with the City of Ripley on an LPA (local public agency) transportation improvement project in the downtown area.
MDOT oversees LPA projects that utilize federal funds with local matching funds. The projects must adhere to federal guidelines and regulations.
The LPA project in Ripley is for the reconstruction of Main Street between Union Street and Highway 15, according to Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert. The project will include milling and overlay of the existing pavement, new pavement markings and installation of curb and gutter.
“This LPA project will greatly improve mobility in downtown Ripley,” Tagert said. “It’s an important step toward revitalizing the downtown area.”
J. M. Duncan Inc., of Falkner, will be the contractor for this project at a cost of $140,615, which is more than 12 percent under the LPA engineer’s estimate.
