Coast Guard investigating barge grounding on Tenn-Tom

U.S. Coast Guard investigators are trying to determine how a barge ran aground yesterday on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway.

Coast Guard officials tell WTVA-TV the incident happened around 5 a.m. at mile marker 445 near the Yellow Creek Port.

The barge was one of five being pushed by the motor vessel Crimson White when the lead barge ran aground.

Officials say there were no injuries, but the barge does have a hole in it.

The Coast Guard Command Center in Mobile, Ala., reports four of the barges were carrying rocks. The fifth barge was empty.

The Crimson White is owned by Cooper Marine in Mobile, Ala.

The Coast Guard says the grounded barge is not affecting traffic on the waterway.
