Ex-nursing home worker arrested; accused of bilking patients
REDWOOD — A 37-year-old former nursing home worker has been arrested on multiple counts of exploiting vulnerable persons.
Attorney General Jim Hood said Lee Ray Martin, of Redwood, is alleged to have obtained more than $101,000 from 83 residents of Shady Lawn Nursing Home and Vicksburg Convalescent Center.
Hood, in a news release, says at the time the crimes are alleged to have occurred Martin worked as the business office coordinator for both facilities. She is accused of using her position to write checks from the resident trust fund/petty cash account, cashing the checks and converting the funds for her own use.
Investigators with Hood’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit booked Martin into the Vicksburg city jail. Bond was set at $75,000.

IT IS VERY SAD TO HEAR OF THE INCREASED FINANCIAL ABUSE OF THE ELDERLY..WE WHO WORK IN THE LTCSNF INDUSTRY ARE SUPPOSED HAVE LOVE AND COMPASSION AS WELL AS ETHICS. TO TAKE FROM A NY PERSON IS WRONG. AS A NURSE FOR MORE THAN 35 YEARS, I HAVE NEVER SEEN SO MANY REPORTS OF ELDERLY ABUSE BEFORE. I PRAY THAT MEDICAL PERSONEL ENTERING IN THE AREA OF TAKING CARE OF MY ELDERLY WILL THINK TWICE BEFORE THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY ONE. REMEMBER THE NEXT VICTIM COULD BE YOUR FAMILY MEMBER OR EVEN YOU!!!!
