Services dropped at Ocean Springs health office

OCEAN SPRINGS — The Mississippi Department of Health’s has suspended some services and cut hours at its office in Ocean Springs.

The clinic no longer offers medical or environmental services. It is open Wednesdays and Thursdays only for WIC, the federally funded health and nutrition program for women, infants and children.

Previously, the office offered a range of services, including immunizations, disease investigations, and wastewater and food inspections.

State health officials told the Jackson County Board of Supervisors on Monday that the move was necessary, as all of the department’s revenues have been hit.

Officials say money from the county has been cut and the Health Department is seeing less money from Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements.

The services canceled at Ocean Springs are now being handled at the Pascagoula office.
