Tannehill sells, retires

Jack Rhea Tannehill has retired after 44 years editing and publishing a newspaper in east Mississippi. In a deal consummated with a handshake, Tannehill sold the Newton County Appeal to Emmerich Newspapers.
Tannehill, 66, whose weekly has won dozens awards over the years, had served as editor and publisher newspaper since 1968 when his father, Jack Long Tannehill, died.
In February 2009, Tannehill started the Appeal and for a short time had papers in Union and Newton. He combined the two operations into what became the Newton County Appeal.
Now, Tannehill says there is time for gardening, golf and all the things his wife has wanted him to do.
