David E. Johnson has joined Commercial Bank as executive vice president. For the past year, Johnson has worked as a banking consultant, but previously served as chairman and CEO of The First, a National Banking Association, and its holding company, The First Bancshares Inc.
Johnson is a 1975 graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned his bachelor’s of science degree. In 1977, he completed studies for his MBA from Mississippi State and in 1990 completed the National Commercial Lending and Graduate School, conducted at the University of Oklahoma.
During the course of his career, Johnson served seven years as a director of the New Orleans Branch of the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank. He also served as national director of the Independent Community Bankers of America and sat on its Executive Committee in 2008. Additionally, he served as a director of both the Mississippi National Banker’s Bank and the Area Development Partnership. Currently, he serves on the advisory board for the Business School at the University of Southern Mississippi, the board of the Forrest General Hospital Foundation and the Salvation Army.
Having resided in Hattiesburg, Johnson has been active in a host of civic, charitable and economic development endeavors throughout the region including, among others, United Way, Mississippi State M Club and Parkway Heights Methodist Church.
Johnson and his wife of 32 years, Anita, have two grown daughters.
