C Spire Wireless is entering the 4G space later this year. The Ridgeland-based telecom announced last week they will be offering “fourth-generation long term evolution” to customers beginning in September.
The $60 million investment will take the C Spire brand and network into 20 new markets and reach more than a million customers. In a release, C Spire representatives said the service will be 10 times faster than their current 3G plan.
Cities in north Mississippi covered under the new plan include Oxford, Tupelo, Corinth, New Albany, Pontotoc, Booneville, Starkville, Columbus and West Point.
Yazoo City, Cleveland, Greenville, Greenwood and Clarksdale will be targeted in the Delta region as will Meridian and parts of Lauderdale County in east Mississippi. The south Mississippi cities of Brookhaven, Columbia, Natchez, Petal, Hattiesburg, McComb and Lucedale will also have 4G as will more customers in the Jackson metropolitan area and on the Gulf Coast.
