Entergy Mississippi: Utility bills to decrease more than expected

JACKSON — Customers of Entergy Mississippi Inc. will see their rates drop more than previously announced through April, May and June, according to the utility.

Haley Fisackerly, president and CEO for Entergy Mississippi, said, “With a continuation of low natural gas prices combined by efficient operations of our system by our employees we are able to lower bills even more than we originally thought. This is great for our customers and for Mississippi’s economic competitiveness.”

The typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month will pay roughly $87.60 beginning April 1. This is about $7.48 less than the average monthly amount paid in March. It’s also $5.60 less than the typical residential customer paid during the second quarter of 2011, when 1,000 kWh of electricity cost approximately $93.20.

Customers’ electric bills are made up of a combination of rates and usage. Those customers using more than the typical 1,000 kWh per month will see higher bills because of this usage, while those using less will see lower bills.
