Coast supervisors vote to create regional marketing group

MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST — Harrison County supervisors have voted to create a regional marketing group to promote tourism on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Yesterday’s 4-1 vote follows months of discussion and meetings about the issue. The Legislature will have the ultimate authority to create the new organization.

Supervisor Marlin Ladner was the lone vote against, saying he could not approve creating the group without having a funding source to finance it.

Harrison County Tourism Commission Chairman Rip Daniels says he’s pleased the regional group idea is moving forward but also would like to see more details.

The board would have 15 members, nine from Harrison County and three each from Jackson and Hancock counties.
