Delta city gets grants to renovate historic train station

GREENVILLE — The city of Greenville has received funds to refurbish the historic train depot.

The Delta Democrat Times reports a grant of $400,000 came from the Mississippi Department of Transportation and a $135,000 grant came from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.

Walley Morse, secretary of the Joint Greenville Washington County Historic Preservation Commission, says the building was donated by Genesee & Wyoming railroad.

Cary Karlson, executive director of the chamber and Economic Development Center, said the EDC will move to the depot from its current offices in about a year.

While the inside will be modernized, the depot’s exterior will keep its historic look.
