Former MDOT executive director Brown wins mayoral runoff

NATCHEZ — Larry L. Brown has won the Democratic primary for Natchez mayor, defeating Phillip West by 541 votes in the runoff.

Brown, former executive director of the Mississippi Department of Transportation, received 56 percent of the vote, or 2,696 votes in yesterday’s runoff election. West had 44 percent of the vote, or 2,155 votes.

The Natchez Democrat reports Brown now faces Independent Bill Furlow and Republican Bob Buie in the June 5 general election.

Brown and West defeated incumbent Mayor Jake Middleton in the May 1 primary.

  1. Heard the latest buzz?! Seems there is a bit of interest in Browns actual residency regarding mayoral candidate qualifications re local/state statutes. This should get interesting because the stations gathering information are sitting on the story waiting to see if he will actually win.

Personally, I think it’s not newsworthy at this point since he has always maintained his primary residence outside the city limits, even during his first term(s) as mayor in Natchez.

But given his recent debacles, it should be interesting.
