Another Rankin County city to vote on liquor sales

BRANDON — A vote on liquor sales is coming this fall in Brandon as Rankin County continues to shed its dry county status.

It’s a change that began in 2009 when 77 percent of Flowood residents voted in liquor sales. Pearl later followed when it voted to allow liquor sales by the glass.

But Brandon isn’t allowing a free flow of beer while the liquor vote is pending.

The Clarion-Ledger reports the city recently voted to allow beer sales on Sundays, but the Board of Aldermen voted 4-3 on June 4 to not allow tobacco stores to sell beer.

Of Mississippi’s 82 counties, 27 are dry and 10 more, including Rankin, are considered partially dry.
