Eaton's Jackson facility recognized as top supplier for Learjet 85 program

JACKSON — Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation’s aerospace facility in Jackson was recently awarded by Bombardier Aerospace for superior performance in quality, delivery and competitiveness as the hydraulic system supplier for the highly anticipated Learjet 85 business jet.

“Our LJ85 team has enhanced Eaton’s growth position at Bombardier Aerospace by providing solutions that have enabled the customer to achieve program milestones,” Stuart Mullan, vice president and general manager of Eaton’s power and motion control division, said in a press release. “It has been an exciting opportunity to team with Bombardier on the development of one of the world’s most advanced business jets, and it’s also an incredible honor to be recognized by Bombardier as a top supplier.”

On April 18, Eaton’s Jackson facility received a Bombardier Achieving Supplier Excellence (BASE) award for achieving top supplier performance standards. The BASE program recognizes suppliers that support Bombardier Aerospace’s strategy “to deliver an amazing customer experience through superior performance,” according to award literature.

In addition to the hydraulic system, Eaton supplies the airplane’s fuel-inerting system and engine build-up package. Eaton content will be featured on three LJ85 variants built over a 12-year period with a total quantity of 1,000 aircraft planned for production.

The Jackson facility — home to one of the most advanced aircraft hydraulic test labs in the world — is conducting power systems tests for the LJ85 to prove that main and auxiliary power systems operate and interface properly to support the airplane’s scheduled entry into service in 2013.

The LJ85 is the first business jet with both fuselage and wings built primarily from carbon composites, a revolutionary design advancement that will increase passenger comfort and minimize drag through smoother aerodynamics. In addition, a composite airframe requires less maintenance, is easier to repair and extends service life. The LJ85 also will fly faster and farther than any Learjet ever built.

In the aerospace industry, Eaton is a leading supplier of hydraulic, electro-hydraulic pump and generator products and integrated systems; engine and airframe fuel pumps; electric motors; aircraft door actuation, flight and flow controls; fluid, fuel and air delivery products and systems; nose wheel steering systems; integrated control systems; cockpit controls and displays; power and load management systems; pressure sensors, seals, and fluid health monitoring products and systems. Eaton serves commercial and military aviation, aerospace, military weapons, marine and off-road markets worldwide.
