Fulton holds hotel tax election

FULTON — Fulton voters will decide Tuesday whether to approve a new tax on hotel lodging within the city.

Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that the city has proposed a 3 percent tax on hotel stays in the city to support various programs.

The tax requires approval of 60 percent of voters.

City officials say the tax would bring in $50,000 to $70,000 annually to support several projects including improvements to the natural gas lines in the city, especially to the downtown area and the port.
