Alliance hoping to start sand-drying plant operations next month

PICAYUNE — A company building a sand-drying plant to service the oil industry is eying an August start-up.

Jacque Ballay, vice president in charge of marketing and sales for Alliance Consulting Group, LLC, tells the Picayune Item when the plant cranks up, it will be able to handle a maximum of 200 truckloads of sand per day, based on demand for the product.

The plant covers 30 acres and stretches along the Norfolk-Southern railway from Picayune’s southern city limits to Holcomb’s Crossing near Nicholson community.

Ballay said 50 workers would run the operation. He says the plant might initiate another round of hiring based on the demands of the market, when the company begins production.

“Depending on what our orders are, we have plans for expanding the facility, and that would entail hiring more employees,” said Ballay.

He said phase two of the plant calls for installing another drier, he said.

The plant will process the sand, which will be mined from local and area pits, producing a fine sand for the oil drilling industry. Ballay said it would be shipped throughout the United States by truck and rail.

Alliance Consulting Group is headquartered in New Orleans.
