Thompson raises $1.2M; his three opponents combined get less than $8,000

AROUND MISSISSIPPI — Democratic U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson’s campaign war chest tops $1.2 million, far more than his Republican and independent opponents, according to recent filings with the Federal Election Commission.

The FEC reports cover the period ending June 30.

Thompson is running for an 11th term in Mississippi’s 2nd District.

Thompson’s Republican opponent Bill Marcy of Vicksburg reported $5,853 on hand while independent Cobby Williams of Canton reported $2,114. Reform Party candidate Lajena Williams has not reported raising any money.

The election is Nov. 6.

In other races:

— Republican Rep. Alan Nunnelee has $267,659 as of June 30 in his re-election bid in the 1st District. Democrat Brad Morris has $10,749.

— Republican Rep. Gregg Harper has $235,788 in the 3rd District. Democratic challenger Crystal Biggs did not report raising any money.

— Republican Steven Palazzo in the 4th District reported $254,013. Democrat opponent Michael Herrington did not file a report.
