FSA office that serves about 3,000 farmers to close

FULTON — Itawamba County’s branch of the Farm Service Agency will close Sept. 7.

Itawamba County FSA head Johnny Guntharp tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal he expects many of the farmers to relocate files to the Tupelo office.

In May, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced it would close 125 FSA offices nationwide. Mississippi FSA officials scheduled for closing are Benton County, Choctaw County, DeSoto County, Itawamba County, Lamar County, Lawrence County, Smith County and Yalobusha County.

Guntharp says the Itawamba office served about 3,000 farms.
