Mississippi Valley now disaster-resistant university

ITTA BENA — Mississippi Valley State University says it’s getting federal recognition as a disaster resistant university.

It says that at a hearing this evening, university president Donna Oliver will sign a mitigation plan approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The plan includes setting secure solar lights throughout the campus to make it easy to see markers that will be crucial for speedy exits during disasters.

The hearing will be at 6 p.m. in the administration building of the university in Itta Bena.
