Supervisors terminate architect of new county jail

PASCAGOULA — Jackson County supervisors have fired the architect for the new county jail.

The Sun Herald reports the supervisors voted to terminate the contract with Pryor & Morrow, who has been working on the jail for more than 10 years.

Board of Supervisors president John McKay said the move would free the county to go in a different direction.

McKay said the fact that the cost of the current jail design, a traditional brick-and-mortar structure, was going up and up, reaching an estimated $35 million, fueled the decision to change.
