NATCHEZ — Adams County is applying for a $3 million state loan to help pay for a levee to be built on the site of the former Belwood Country Club.
The levee is part of the county’s commitment to an economic recruiting package to bring alternative fuels company KiOR to Adams County. The Belwood property fills with water during high river stages, and the levee will designed to protect the property from flooding.
The Natchez Democrat reports the levee project is expected to cost up to $6 million. County officials say the remainder of the cost will be financed by bonds.
KiOR plans to build a facility that converts organic matter into liquid fuel. The company’s $350 million investment is expected to generate 320 direct and indirect jobs.
