Supervisors OK plan for Ocean Springs Harbor

OCEAN SPRINGS — Jackson County supervisors have approved a plan for the Harbor Commission to manage and lease parking and boat slips that will be created when the state removes a boat shed and restaurant from the county’s Ocean Springs Harbor.

County leaders said the Department of Marine Resources will need to first remove the structures, leaving room for additional parking near the community pier and boat launches and eight additional boat slips, six of which can be rented to the public.

The Sun Herald reports Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran had tried to salvage the structures to continue to offer commercial boat storage at the harbor. Officials say the state purchased the buildings from the private owners with grant money that requires the property be returned to green space.
