Delta school district awaits results from surprise audit

GREENVILLE — The Mississippi Department of Education has completed an unannounced audit of the Greenville Public Schools.

School officials expect the results in time for school board’s meeting Oct. 30.

The Education Department spent four days in Greenville this past week.

Department spokeswoman Patrice Guilfoyle tells the Delta Democrat Times the department is traveling throughout the state conducting random, unannounced accreditation audits at 20 locations.

Guilfoyle says the schools are selected at random and are presented a letter announcing the audit once the department arrives in the district.

Greenville superintendent Leeson Taylor II says there are concerns about alternative education, maintenance and transportation in the district. Taylor says officials hope improvements can be made based on “corrective actions already in place and the recommendations of the state.”
