Developers say they're marketing Clay County site

WEST POINT — Economic developers say a new 1,100-acre industrial site in Clay County is already being marketed to potential industries.

The parcel is 3 miles east of U.S. 45 Alternate, north of West Point.

It’s the first preplanned megasite in Clay County. Officials with the Link, the economic development agency that recruits industry in Clay and Lowndes counties, say abundant power, water and sewer treatment make the land attractive. The county’s economy has struggled since Sara Lee closed its meat plant in 2007.

The Tennessee Valley Authority invented the megasite concept in 2004 to attract large industries. Two megasites have been sold in Lowndes County, one to steelmaker Severstal and one to PACCAR Engine Co.

The Link plans a reception Monday in West Point for community members to learn about the site.
