One candidate ruled ineligible for Delta mayor's race

GREENVILLE — One candidate for Greenville mayor has been disqualified for failing to gather the required number of 50 signatures of registered voters for the Oct. 22 special election ballot.

City attorney Andy Alexander tells the Delta Democrat Times Danyelle Singletary-Kimble did not meet qualification requirements.

The city election commission certified four others — Carl McGee, former vice mayor; Cassandra McMiller, Greenville Mid-Delta Airport’s executive assistant; John Cox, an attorney; and Phil Vazzana, an architect.

The election will come 30 days after former Mayor Chuck Jordan announced his resignation. Jordan made his decision after learning he has advanced-stage pancreatic cancer. Under the city charter, an election must be held within 30 days of a vacancy.

Polls will open at 7 a.m. on Oct. 22 and close at 7 p.m.
