The property that so many Bay St. Louis residents knew as New Orleans musician Pete Fountain’s place now belongs to a couple well known for their politics.
Political commentators and consultants James Carville and Mary Matalin have bought the Beach Boulevard property and plan to build a home there starting early next year.
It will be a getaway for the couple and their two daughters, who have lived in New Orleans since 2008.
“We’re very excited that we’ve got Pete’s lot,” said Carville. “We’re such big fans of his.”
Carville, a native of Carville, La., remembers family vacations in Biloxi when he was growing up. “It was before the interstate. We’d leave on Friday and go through the Rigolets, the whole deal.” he said. “I always liked that part of the world.”
Carville said the Coast “has all the things we like.” And the new house will be just 55 minutes “door to door” from their New Orleans home.
Carville said he sees from his visits that things are looking up in Bay St. Louis as it continues to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.
“I think the town has got a good feel to it, it looks like it’s coming back and the people feel very positive,” he said. “There’s a lot of stuff going on and happening there.”
He envisions trips to Cat Island and dinner parties with friends in the new house. Matalin, he said, wants to spend time gardening there.
“We’re really excited,” he said. “We look forward to being part of the community.”
