GREENVILLE — Preservationists in Greenville are trying to determine how far their jurisdiction goes over minor repairs to local historical properties.
Walley Morse, secretary of the Joint Greenville Washington County Historic Preservation Commission, tells the Delta Democrat Times concerns were raised in the downtown historic district regarding paint and minor repairs.
The commission was given an undetermined amount of control of about 100 properties after the Greenville City Council approved the local historic district in September.
Morse said the commission must now determine its role in respect to upkeep of the 91 buildings.
Morse said the commission also is responsible for making sure buildings within the district don’t fall into the “demolition by neglect” category.
