UPDATE: Innovate Mississippi launches

The Mississippi Technology Alliance has changed its name to Innovate Mississippi.

CEO Tony Jeff made the announcement Wednesday at the non-profit association’s annual conference on technology innovation at the Jackson Convention Complex.

Numerous investors and members of the technology business community attended including FNC Inc. founder Bill Rayburn and C Spire Wireless CEO Hu Meena. The lunch was keynoted by Biloxi native and Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise.

The Ridgeland group has served as an economic developer and capital management consultant in years past but that role has since grown to include more work with manufacturers and start-ups including those without a traditional tech-based focus.

“Some people thought we installed computers or provided IT support,” said Innovate spokeswoman Reagan Jackson. “Innovate Mississippi is just a step towards a more clear and accurate company banner.

With the new name, Innovate Mississippi will continue connecting start-ups with investors and helping educate and promote technology-based economic development tools like broadband communications for rural Mississippi communities.

Bomgar CEO and Innovate board member Joel Bomgar said no additional changes to the association are planned at this time. “The old name was holding us back. Innovate Mississippi is much stronger, clearer, and more memorable,” he said. “We as a board continue to be incredibly excited about the mission of Innovate Mississippi.”
