The Mississippi Fairgrounds has once again become a mecca for Christmas tree enthusiasts from across the state.
Rankin County farmers Roy and A.B. Nichols are set up inside the old livestock barn selling Fraser, Douglas and Leland fir trees from farms in North Carolina and Oregon. A portion of the sales are contributed each year to the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital at the University Medical Center in Jackson.
In the massive parking lot surrounding the Mississippi Coliseum, Robbie and Sherry Covington have operated their Christmas tree tent for more than 25 years. One of their employees, Dale Tharpe has set a smaller tent aside to help with tree flocking, the coating of Christmas trees with artificial snow made from corn starch and other fireproof adhesives.
