City gets first bids on beachfront promenade project

PASCAGOULA — The city of Pascagoula has received bids on the first phase of the city’s roughly $4 million beachfront promenade project.

Program manager Jaclyn Turner tells The Sun Herald the project’s first part includes decorative lighting, benches and construction of a 10-foot-wide sidewalk. It is estimated to cost about $1 million.

Turner says the city council will decide next week on the bids. In 2009, the U.S. Senate approved a spending bill that allotted $500,000 to Pascagoula for the project.

An additional $828,000 is to be allocated from the state Department of Transportation.
