GREENVILLE — Plans to consolidate two schools in Greenville and convert a middle school into a magnet school have been approved by the Greenville School Board.
The Delta Democrat Times reports the board this week approved combining T.L. Weston Ninth-Grade Academy with Greenville-Weston High School. The new Greenville High School will have grades 9-12. The Weston campus will become a second middle school.
Solomon Middle School will become a magnet school for sixth through 12th grades. Magnet schools have a specific theme or mission that drives their curriculum, such as fine arts or science. Magnet schools still must be racially balanced.
An early childhood education program and improvements to the alternative school are planned.
Superintendent Leeson Taylor II says plans would be implemented over the next 14 months.
