JACKSON — A new payroll system in Jackson won’t cut the pay of city employees, but workers still will receive less money for the first seven months of 2013.
The Clarion-Ledger reports the city is switching to a bi-weekly pay system from the bi-monthly one it uses now, spreading employee pay over 26 pay periods instead of 24.
At the end of the year, everything will even out — two more checks a year will make up for the smaller, bi-weekly checks.
The changes were proposed in the wake of a U.S. Department of Labor investigation into the city’s timekeeping.
City spokesman Chris Mims said that while pay will go down per check, deductions will too.
