Historic business district getting needed upgrades

JACKSON — Upgrades are coming to the Fondren Business District.

The Clarion-Ledger reports it’s a move that community leaders applaud as the area continues to see a boom in business and population growth.

The upgrades come on the heels of an announced $2.5 million in a mix of federal and local funds to help enhance portions of one of Jackson’s historic districts.

Fondren Renaissance Foundation director Jim Wilkirson says the sidewalks will be brought up to code with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

Jeff Good, a Fondren resident and Jackson restaurateur, says the area is old and in desperate need of infrastructure upgrades.
