Hypocrisy issue raised in Palazzo vote against Sandy aid for Northeast

Last week, two-term Rep. Steven Palazzo, a Biloxi Republican, sparked controversy nationwide when he voted against relief for victims of Hurricane Sandy, despite representing coastal Mississippi, one of the regions hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina and a top beneficiary of Katrina disaster aid, Talking Points Memo reports.

But in addition to representing the region today, Palazzo (who was named Top 40 Under 40 by the Mississippi Business Journal in 2005)  was deeply involved in pressing for federal dollars in the fall of 2005. Then acting in his role as a local government official, Palazzo repeatedly appealed for federal funding to help rebuild his battered coastal Mississippi community in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

About Ted Carter

  1. Daniel-Mississippi

The greater hypocrisy occurred when the housing aid money that Palazzo begged FEMA for in 2005 went instead to the Port of Gulfport for the failed attempt at elevating and modernizing the port facilities. The renters and working poor that Palazzo was supposedly advocating for have still not received housing assistance over 7 years later and many are still displaced elsewhere in Mississippi as well as in other states. The funds should be returned to a legitimate housing authority to be used for affordable housing on the Gulf Coast.

  2. There is no doubt whatsoever, that Steven Palazzo is a Hypocrit!!! I went on his website and took the liberty of telling him so too! The very notion of him begging for State money for Hurricane Katrina, yet voting against it where New Jersey was concerned!!! If that isn’t a classic example of Hypocrisy, I don’t know what is! I couldn’t stand him before he pulled that trick out from under his sleeve, and this latest one just confirmed my previous thoughts about him.
