New NFIB report shows employer anxiety over hiring, credit conditions

The National Federation of Independent Businesses has issued their January report highlighting small business owners continued anxiety over the nation’s slow economic recovery.

The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index says that small business owner confidence did not rebound in December and the report’s final reading was the second lowest since March 2010. A sample of 3,938 small-business owners/members was drawn and answers showed drops in confidence when it came to hiring and credit conditions.

“Congress played chicken right up to the end of the year, leaving small-business owners with no new information about the economy’s future,” NFIB economist Bill Dunkelberg is quoted as saying, “No sense of how much their taxes would increase or if the economy would go over the now infamous cliff.”
