Former editor dies

Former Houston Chronicle night editor Lee Cearnal, who oversaw a Pulitzer Prize-winning project while with The Clarion-Ledger in Mississippi, has died in Houston. He was 68. Cearnal worked at several newspapers during his long career in journalism, including a stint at The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson and another in Monroe, La., before he landed a job at the Chronicle.

Cearnal is survived by his daughter, Gretchen Cearnal-Botha, her husband, Mario Botha, and two granddaughters, Ellie Botha, 4, and Grace Leigh Botha, 2.
