HATTIESBURG — The Hattiesburg City Council held a special called meeting to discuss cleanup and response efforts in the wake of the Feb. 10 tornado.
The Hattiesburg American reports Mayor Johnny DuPree estimated the amount of debris in the city is about 200,000 cubic yards. DuPree said the city would release a request for proposals today seeking bids from debris contractors.
The city has established a temporary dump site for collected debris behind the public works department.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has also established a household hazardous waste disposal site behind Cameron Field at Kamper Park. Residents can drop off batteries, paint, household chemicals or other hazardous or environmentally damaging chemicals at the location.
