Study finds support for downtown arena in Capital City

JACKSON — A long-awaited study finds Jackson can support a downtown arena, but the city is no closer to having the money to build one.

Officials say the feasibility study is an encouraging sign for city officials and business leaders who have long insisted Jackson can support such a facility.

The study recommends Jackson build a $115 million, 9,000-seat arena that could be used for sports, concerts and large touring shows such as “Disney on Ice.” It projects the arena to have a $19.7 million economic impact per year.

Ben Allen, president of Downtown Jackson Partners, tells Clarion-Ledger reports the business community is behind the effort, but it will require the enthusiastic support of the city’s elected leaders to get an arena built.
